“Full fathom five thy father lies...”
– The Tempest, Act I, Scene 2

This haunting line begins a song in William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”, the story of magician Prospero’s journey from sworn vengeance to forgiveness. Intertwining enchantment and reality in a profound study of humanity, the power of the Bard’s writing has inspired composers through the ages to create choral pieces from his words, one single text often sparking music across a remarkable spectrum of style and colour. On the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s passing, Hong Kong Young People’s Chorus (HKYPC) will take you on a journey of his classic works in the upcoming concert, “Full Fathom Five: A Shakespearean Celebration”. Embark on the stormy seas of “The Tempest”, plunge into the three witches’ spells and manipulation in “Macbeth”, frolic with the playful fairies in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, delve into a lover’s seething brain in the Sonnets – come enjoy the tragic and comic Shakespearean moments, now set to music, with HKYPC!
